Ubisoft Confirms Cancellation Of Six Projects As Part Of Company Restructuring
Ubisoft has confirmed the cancellation of six game projects as it continues a broader restructuring effort across its studios, shedding light on titles that had been in development for several years.
The cancellations came to light following Ubisoft’s decision to halt development on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, a long-delayed project first announced in 2020. New reporting from Insider Gaming indicates that five additional games were also quietly shelved during the same period.
List Of Affected Projects
According to Insider Gaming, the canceled titles include a mix of console, PC, and mobile projects at various stages of development:
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake – Officially canceled after multiple delays and studio changes.
Project Aether – A project that had been in development since 2019, believed to be based at Ubisoft Halifax. While the original version was canceled, elements of the concept are said to have been repurposed into a newer initiative.
Project Pathfinder – Previously known internally as Project U, this title has now been shelved.
Project Crest – A World War II-themed extraction shooter that was discontinued before public reveal.
Assassin’s Creed Rebellion – Ubisoft has ended ongoing support for the mobile strategy game.
Assassin’s Creed Singularity – A mobile-focused Assassin’s Creed title that was also planned for PC, reportedly in development for several years before cancellation.
Sources noted that while another multiplayer Assassin’s Creed project was previously reported to have been shut down, it is not included in this group of six titles.
Focus Shifts To Key Franchises
Despite the cuts, Ubisoft continues to move forward with select high-profile projects. Among them is the Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Remake, which has not been canceled. Industry rumors suggest the remake could be formally revealed in April after being pushed out of the current fiscal year.
The cancellations underscore Ubisoft’s effort to streamline development and refocus resources amid financial pressure and changing market conditions. While the company has not detailed how many staff members were affected by the decisions, the move reflects a broader trend among major publishers scaling back projects to prioritize fewer, more commercially viable releases.
As Ubisoft continues to reshape its pipeline, fans are left waiting to see which long-running franchises will define the company’s next chapter – and which ideas will remain unreleased.
