McDonald’s Unveils Grandma-Inspired McFlurry for Limited Time

McDonald’s has announced a new addition to its McFlurry lineup, drawing inspiration from a nostalgic source: grandmothers. Starting May 21, the fast-food giant will introduce the “Grandma McFlurry,” a sweet blend of syrup, vanilla ice cream, and crunchy candy pieces, humorously described as “like grandma’s favourite treat that she hid in her purse.”

While McDonald’s has kept the exact flavour of the candy under wraps, speculation on social media suggests it resembles butterscotch, akin to the beloved Werther’s Original candies often associated with grandmothers.

“Grandmas have always held a special place in our hearts, and today they’re having a major moment influencing culture — inspiring trends in fashion, decor, and now, even food with our newest McFlurry,” said Tariq Hassan, McDonald’s Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer, in a press release.

The “Grandmacore” aesthetic, popular among Gen Z on TikTok, embraces the comfort and charm of traditional grandmotherly activities like knitting and baking, further fueling the inspiration behind this new McFlurry flavour.

McDonald’s aims to replicate the viral success of last summer’s Grimace shake with this nostalgic treat. Amidst recent challenges with sales due to inflation and a shift towards home-cooked meals, the chain is also planning to introduce a $5 meal deal next month to attract budget-conscious customers, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.

The Grandma McFlurry is available for a limited time, inviting customers to indulge in a treat that pays homage to the timeless sweetness of grandma’s kitchen.
