US Open Champion Raducanu Sent Packing From Wimbledon in Second Round

In what would could be described as yet another grand upset, US Open champion, Emma Raducanu has been defeated in straight sets by unseeded Caroline Garcia in the second round of Wimbledon.

Raducanu was the no. 10 seed and had been backed by an enthusiastic crowd hoping she would remain in the tournament, but she was well beaten by her French opponent who claimed the win 6-3, 6-3.

The British star began the match slowly and struggled to get back into it from then on as Garcia swept her aside.

Garcia broke early in the first set to go up 2-0 and although Raducanu made a great effort to get it back to 5-3, Garcia secured the set in the next game.

After dispatching the reigning US Open champion and No.10 seed, Garcia must be feeling good about her prospects but she isn’t getting carried away.

“You win a couple of matches in a row and I won a title in Germany but you have to start all over again and I won my first match 7-6 in the third set against a British wildcard,” said Garcia.
