Usher to Headline 2024 Super Bowl Halftime Show, Announces New Album ‘Coming Home’

Usher is set to headline next year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show, and the highly-anticipated performance will coincide with the release of his upcoming album.

The NFL, in collaboration with Apple Music, the presenting partner of the halftime show, officially announced this exciting news. The R&B legend expressed his enthusiasm for what he called “the performance of a lifetime.”

Usher stated, “It’s an honour of a lifetime to finally check a Super Bowl performance off my bucket list. I can’t wait to bring the world a show unlike anything else they’ve seen from me before. Thank you to the fans and everyone who made this opportunity happen. I’ll see you real soon.”

Jay-Z, who is involved in producing the halftime show as the NFL’s live music entertainment strategist, also shared his thoughts on Usher’s upcoming performance. The show will take place on February 11, 2024, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“Usher is the ultimate artist and showman,” Jay-Z remarked. “Ever since his debut at the age of 15, he’s been charting his own unique course. Beyond his flawless singing and exceptional choreography, Usher bares his soul. His remarkable journey has propelled him to one of the grandest stages in the world. I can’t wait to see the magic.”

Usher took to Instagram to share a promotional poster for the announcement, featuring him wearing a gold grill that reads “LVIII,” a reference to Super Bowl 58, and holding a diamond-encrusted toothpick.

In addition to the poster, Usher released a series of promotional videos featuring cameo appearances from Super Bowl champions Deion Sanders, Marshawn Lynch, Odell Beckham Jr., and Kim Kardashian. In a playful nod to his 2004 “Confessions Pt. II” video, they inform Usher about his Super Bowl halftime show.

Moreover, Usher dropped another major announcement: his new album, “Coming Home,” will be released on the same day as the Super Bowl halftime show, February 11, 2024. The album will include the previously released single “Good Good” featuring 21 Savage and Summer Walker, as well as “Boyfriend,” which became a viral sensation due to its Keke Palmer-assisted video.

Regarding his album, Usher stated, “We’ve put a lot of thought and creativity into this new album to tell a story that is open to interpretation and that will connect with people in different ways. I know this has been a long time coming for my fans, and what I’ll say is that all good things come to those who wait. I hope you enjoy it once you hear it.”

Coming Home

Usher’s upcoming halftime show continues the recent trend of R&B and Hip Hop artists dominating the Super Bowl stage. It follows performances by Rihanna (2023), Dr. Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent, and Mary J. Blige (2022), and The Weeknd (2021).

While this marks Usher’s first time headlining the Super Bowl, he is not new to the Super Bowl stage, having appeared as a special guest during the Black Eyed Peas’ performance in 2011.

Usher’s potential Super Bowl performance had been a topic of speculation for some time, and he had previously expressed his interest in the opportunity during an interview with Access Hollywood in April.

“I’d be a fool to say no,” Usher had stated. “Well, I mean, you know, things line up that we would all hope. You know, one day that moment will happen.”

Furthermore, Usher’s ability to command the Super Bowl stage as a solo artist had been the subject of debate on social media back in February.
