Why I’m Excluded from Conversations About Best Musicians – Young Jonn

Nigerian singer and producer Young Jonn has expressed frustration over being left out of conversations about the country’s top musicians.

The “Dada” hitmaker attributed his exclusion to his career origins as a music producer rather than as a singer. Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Young Jonn shared his thoughts, vowing that time would eventually prove who the best musicians truly are.

“I see how you all leave me out of conversations, prolly ’cos I started out as a producer. Continue! Time will tell!” he wrote.

Young Jonn initially rose to fame as one of YBNL Nation’s in-house producers, where he was instrumental in crafting hit tracks for artists like Lil Kesh and Olamide. After transitioning to a singing career under Chocolate City, he has delivered several chart-topping singles, including “Dada,” “Xtra Cool,” “Big Big Things,” and “Stronger.”

Despite his success as both a producer and artist, Young Jonn’s remarks highlight the challenges of recognition in Nigeria’s competitive music industry, particularly for artists who transition between roles.
