Wizkid Responds to Odumodublvck’s Claim of Tems and Ayra Starr Surpassing Wiz, Fela and Burna Boy
Nigerian music icon Wizkid has responded to recent remarks by fellow artist Odumodublvck, who claimed that Ayra Starr and Tems have achieved more than Afrobeat legends Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
Odumodublvck’s comments were made during an appearance on the ‘Cocktails & Takeaways’ podcast hosted by Madame Joyce. He praised Ayra Starr and Tems for their remarkable achievements despite the numerous challenges they face in the music industry, including sexual harassment and intense competition.
He highlighted their recent successes, noting that Ayra Starr’s album The Year I Turned 21 debuted on the US Billboard 200, while Tems’s Born In The Wild charted at number 56. These accomplishments, according to Odumodublvck, surpass those of many male Afrobeat icons.
Wizkid, who has consistently supported both Tems and Ayra Starr, took to social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to address the comments. A fan brought Odumodublvck’s statements to Wizkid’s attention, and he responded by praising the two female artists. He acknowledged that Odumodublvck’s claims were valid and commended Tems and Ayra Starr for their incredible achievements, stating that they are indeed amazing and are currently taking the world by storm.
Wizkid’s supportive stance underscores his recognition of the growing impact of female artists in the Afrobeat genre and his respect for their contributions to the music industry.
