World Bank Team Visits NEMA To Boost Disaster Preparedness in Nigeria
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has hosted a technical delegation from the World Bank Group as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen disaster preparedness and response systems in Nigeria.
The visit, which took place on March 17, 2026, at NEMA’s headquarters in Abuja, brought together key stakeholders focused on improving the country’s ability to manage emergencies effectively.
The World Bank team was led by Francis Nkoka, while NEMA’s Director General, Zubaida Umar, received the delegation.
Discussions during the meeting centred on reviewing existing collaborations and identifying new strategies to enhance disaster risk management across Nigeria. A major focus was on improving how communities prepare for emergencies and strengthening systems for prevention and response.
According to a statement shared by NEMA, the engagement reaffirmed both parties’ commitment to building more resilient systems capable of effectively preventing, preparing for, and responding to disasters.
The collaboration highlights the growing importance of partnerships between local agencies and international organisations in addressing Nigeria’s disaster management challenges, particularly in the face of increasing environmental and humanitarian risks.
