You Need More Than Hit Songs to be Successful – Ruger Tells Colleagues
Nigerian artist Michael Adebayo Olayinka, popularly known as Ruger, recently shared insights on why he remains in high demand for live performances. In a message posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Ruger explained that his popularity on stage isn’t just due to his music but also his engaging personality.
The “Bounce” hitmaker emphasized that genuine stage presence is essential for lasting success as a performer. “Let me explain to you why I get booked so much. I don’t come on stage just to sing (though I know I’m good at that),” he wrote. “I bring my whole personality to the performance; it’s not a joke.”
Ruger highlighted that even artists with numerous hits can struggle to connect with audiences if they lack a dynamic stage presence. “It’s not by having hit songs,” he added. “You can have a million hits and still be clueless on stage at a 200-capacity venue.”
Through his remarks, Ruger suggests that engaging with fans and showing personality on stage is crucial, emphasizing the importance of artistry beyond just producing popular songs.
