Yvonne Orji Speaks Candidly About Her Decision to Remain a Virgin at 39

Actress and comedian Yvonne Orji, known for her role in the hit series Insecure, openly discussed her commitment to abstinence until marriage.

During an episode of Chelsea Handler’s podcast Dear Chelsea, Orji was candidly asked about her virginity, to which she confirmed she remains a virgin at 39. She humorously requested listeners to pray for her future partner due to the built-up “pent-up energy.”

She jestingly added, “Let me tell you right now…pray for him, whoever he is; ya’ll need to pray for him because there’s a lot of pent-up energy up in here.”

Handler joined in, playfully suggesting that Orji might need “a couple of men” once she begins her relationship. In response, the actress humorously quipped, “Yvonne went from being a virgin to polyamory.”

Fans had expressed surprise about Orji’s status considering her numerous intimate scenes on Insecure. However, she previously mentioned in 2021 that the show’s costume designer guided her on how to make those scenes appear realistic.

“The costume designer watched the first tape and pulled me to the bathroom and said, ‘you got to let the man lead,’ ‘you’re off beat,’” she shared. “We definitely made sure it looked believable.”

In a previous interview with PEOPLE magazine in 2017, Orji had disclosed her decision to remain abstinent until marriage, reflecting on her commitment to represent her faith, stating, “Before any of [the fame] happened, I sat down with myself and with God and thought, When I make it, how do you want me to represent you while I’m here?”

Regarding her personal life, Orji was last publicly linked to Emmanuel Acho, a former football star, sports commentator, and creator of Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man. The two announced their relationship in 2018 but parted ways by 2019.
