Oakland Rapper Tan DaGod Fatally Shot at Beauty Store Grand Opening

Bay Area rapper and entrepreneur Tan DaGod was tragically shot and killed during the grand opening of Glamor Beauty Supply in Oakland on Saturday, July 13. The artist, known for her track “Ex Wood Pack,” was attending a meet-and-greet at the event when the shooting occurred. Another individual was also injured in the incident. The Oakland Police Department has not yet identified the shooter.

A witness described the chaotic scene to KRON4, stating, “I heard some shooting. I thought it was part of their music.”

Following the news of her death, Oakland rap legend Mistah F.A.B expressed his grief on social media, posting a heartfelt tribute to Tan DaGod. “The violence is beyond understanding. The hurt, the pain, the trauma has made a forever-lasting impact,” he wrote on Instagram. “I will always remember you as a hustling ass go-getter, with a world of ambition, drive, and courage, and a heart big as TEXAS!!!! I love you lil sis and told you on several occasions. Sad to see this happen!!! They had me booked to be there with you, but GOD had different plans. To #Tannation family and friends, may our warmest condolences be with you!!”

In related news, Julio Foolio, whose real name was Charles Jones, was murdered last month at the age of 26. The rapper was killed at a Holiday Inn in Tampa after hosting a birthday party at an Airbnb that was shut down by police due to overcrowding. Hours before his death, Julio Foolio shared on his Instagram Stories that the party had been interrupted by law enforcement, leading him to seek accommodation at a nearby hotel.

According to Tampa police, the shooting occurred in a parking lot at the corner of Fowler Avenue and McKinley Drive. “What we have learned, and this is early in the investigation, is that two cars were shot at,” said Joneé Lewis, a public information officer for the Tampa Police Department. “The victim in this morning’s shooting is believed to be Charles Jones. Positive identification is pending confirmation from the Medical Examiner’s Office.”

This was the fourth time in as many years that Julio Foolio had been targeted in a shooting. In October, he survived an attack on his black Dodge Challenger, which was riddled with bullets. Although he suffered severe injuries, he did not cooperate with law enforcement. A graphic photo of his injured foot went viral online shortly after the incident.

The deaths of Tan DaGod and Julio Foolio underscore the ongoing issue of violence affecting the hip-hop community and its devastating impact on artists and their families.
