Chiwetalu Agu Advises Singles to Conduct Background Checks Before Marriage
Veteran Nollywood actor Chiwetalu Agu has urged singles to thoroughly investigate their partners before getting married, warning against rushing into relationships without proper scrutiny.
His advice comes amid heated discussions surrounding the recent divorce of singer 2Face Idibia and his wife, Annie Idibia.
In a viral video shared on Instagram, Agu cautioned against succumbing to societal pressure or the desperation to settle down, emphasizing that marriage should not be seen as a do-or-die affair.
“If you have an abusive partner or are in a toxic relationship, run for your life,” he advised. “If you are unhappy in your marriage, seek help or leave. Divorce is better than resting in peace.”
He recounted a tragic case of domestic violence where a woman lost her life to her husband, questioning who would care for the children left behind.
Agu stressed the importance of conducting background checks before committing to marriage, warning that prioritizing physical attraction or peer influence over compatibility and safety could lead to disaster.
“My mates are all married, but I’m still single – see you, see death,” he warned, urging people to avoid making fatal mistakes in the name of marriage.
