Shakira Hospitalized in Peru, Cancels Lima Concert
Colombian pop star Shakira has been hospitalized in Peru due to an abdominal issue, leading to the cancellation of her scheduled performance in Lima on Sunday.
The singer shared the news on social media, informing fans that she had sought emergency medical care the previous night.
“I’m sorry to let you all know that last night I had to go to the emergency room for an abdominal issue and I’m currently hospitalized. The doctors taking care of me have let me know that I’m not well enough to perform tonight,” she wrote.
Shakira had arrived in Lima on Saturday for what would have been her first performance in the country in over a decade. Footage shared on her social media showed large crowds of fans welcoming her at the airport.
Expressing hope for a quick recovery, she added, “I hope to be better by tomorrow and that they release me from the hospital as soon as possible to be able to put on the show that I’ve prepared for you all.”
Shakira, known for global hits like Hips Don’t Lie and La Tortura, has been a pivotal figure in bringing Latin music to international audiences. Her latest releases, including a chart-topping collaboration with Argentine producer Bizarrap, have continued to resonate with fans worldwide.
Her next performance in Lima is scheduled for Monday as part of her ongoing tour, which began last week in Brazil.
