Davido Withdraws from London Concert with 50 Cent and Mary J. Blige, Cites Respect for African Artistry

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, professionally known as Davido, has announced his withdrawal from an upcoming concert at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, originally slated to feature him alongside American music icons 50 Cent and Mary J. Blige.

In a statement shared via his Instagram Story on Saturday, June 14, the Nigerian singer explained that his decision stemmed from unresolved concerns around the quality and integrity of his performance. He claimed that organisers from Iconic Presents failed to address “key elements” essential for delivering a show that meets his standards.

Davido also suggested that a lack of respect for African talent contributed to his decision, calling for African creatives to be treated with the same consideration as their global counterparts.

“Respect is key. Africa must be respected,” he noted in his statement, promising fans in London a standalone concert later this summer as part of the European leg of his ongoing 5Alive Tour.

While the July 3 concert is still expected to go on without him, Davido reassured his supporters that he remains committed to delivering an exceptional show in London under better conditions.

His exit comes after fellow Nigerian stars Burna Boy and Wizkid made history by individually selling out the 62,850-capacity stadium, underscoring the global influence of Afrobeats.
