Sony and Honda to Launch First Car With PlayStation Remote Play in 2026
Sony Honda Mobility has announced that its first production vehicle, Afeela, will become the world’s first car to feature PlayStation Remote Play when deliveries begin in California in 2026.
The joint venture between Sony and Honda said the integration will allow drivers and passengers to play games from their PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4 consoles directly through the car’s infotainment system. Unlike cloud gaming, the feature works by streaming games remotely from a user’s own console to the vehicle’s built-in display and audio system.
The announcement was made in a blog post outlining Afeela’s entertainment-focused approach to in-car technology. Sony Honda Mobility said the feature reflects its ambition to turn vehicles into immersive digital spaces rather than just modes of transport.
Izumi Kawanishi, representative director, president and chief operating officer of Sony Honda Mobility, said the integration of PS Remote Play aligns with the brand’s vision of reimagining mobility. He said the company aims to transform travel time into an engaging and emotionally rich experience through entertainment.
To use PS Remote Play in the vehicle, users will need access to a PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4 console, as well as a reliable internet connection. Sony Honda Mobility said a minimum broadband speed of 5 Mbps is required, while a stable connection of at least 15 Mbps is recommended for smoother gameplay.
The move comes as carmakers increasingly explore in-vehicle gaming and entertainment. Earlier this year, Xbox Cloud Gaming announced plans to roll out to select internet-connected vehicles through a partnership with LG, signalling a broader push to blend gaming and mobility.
Afeela’s launch in California next year marks the first step in Sony Honda Mobility’s entry into the electric vehicle market, with the company positioning advanced digital experiences as a core selling point of its cars.
