Tems Tops Spotify Monthly Listener Chart in Africa
Nigerian singer Tems has overtaken South Africa’s Tyla to become the African artiste with the highest number of monthly listeners on Spotify.
Spotify data shows Tems reaching 38.3 million monthly listeners, edging past Tyla’s 38.2 million. The surge follows a run of recent releases and high-profile collaborations that have boosted her global reach.
Industry watchers attribute the rise to new and ongoing tracks, including “What You Need” (Colour version), “Bounce Road Blues” alongside J. Cole and Future, as well as her collaboration with Dave on “Raindance,” which continues to gain traction.
With momentum building, Tems is now closing in on the all-time African record for monthly listeners, previously set at 40 million. She also retains her position as the most-streamed female African artist on Spotify, with about 4.7 billion streams across all credits.
The milestone underscores Tems’ growing influence on the global music stage as African artists continue to expand their international footprint.
