Older Men Allow You Get Away with a Lot of Things – Joke Silva
Veteran Nollywood actress Joke Silva has spoken about her marriage to an older spouse, saying age differences can bring understanding and tolerance into a relationship.
The 64-year-old actress shared her views during a recent appearance on Your View, where she discussed her long-running marriage to fellow actor Olu Jacobs.
Silva, who married Jacobs in 1985, said one of the benefits of marrying an older man is the level of patience such partners often display. According to her, older men tend to allow their spouses more freedom to express themselves and “get away with a lot of things”.
Recounting how they met, Silva explained that while her husband was immediately drawn to her, she did not feel the same way at first. She said they initially connected through work in the theatre and on a film set, adding that she only later discovered Jacobs was significantly older because of his youthful appearance.
“For him, it was love at first sight, but for me it wasn’t,” she said, reflecting on the early stages of their relationship.
Jacobs was 44 when he married Silva, who was 24 at the time. The couple have two children and are widely regarded as one of Nollywood’s most enduring partnerships.
