Award Revoked After Yemi Solade Declines to Pay for Plaque
Nigerian actor Yemi Solade has revealed that organisers of an award event withdrew his recognition after he refused to pay for the plaque associated with the honour.
Solade took to Instagram to share his disappointment, criticising the organisers and accusing them of attempting to extort him. “I refused to pay for the AWARD PLAQUE. This is the outcome,” the actor wrote, alongside a screenshot of his conversation with a representative of the event organisers.
In the message, the organisers explained their decision, stating:
“Good morning sir, trust you had a good night rest. I did revert your response regarding sponsorship to the management. However, I think it doesn’t sit well with them as they also disclosed how much the plaques cost. Hence, you can please attend, but the award plaque may not be presented in order to save cost. Thank you for your kind understanding, sir.”
Solade, a seasoned actor, emphasised that he does not align with the practice of paying for awards, describing the situation as disappointing.
The incident has sparked discussions about the integrity of awards within the entertainment industry, with many questioning the ethics of asking recipients to cover the costs of their accolades.
