Onimusha: Way of the Sword Could Launch Earlier Than Expected
Fans eagerly awaiting Onimusha: Way of the Sword may not have to wait as long as originally anticipated, following reports that the game’s release date has been moved forward.
Several major retailers have reportedly updated their listings for the upcoming action title, suggesting that the game could now launch on September 4, 2026, instead of its previously announced September 25 release date.
The potential change was first noticed by gaming deal tracker Cheap Ass Gamer, which highlighted updated listings from retailers including Best Buy and PNP Games. While neither Capcom nor the game’s official channels have confirmed the adjustment, the consistent appearance of the new date across multiple retailers has fueled speculation that an announcement could be imminent.
Industry observers believe the move would be a strategic one, as September is shaping up to be one of the most crowded months on the gaming calendar.
The month is expected to feature several high-profile releases, beginning with The Blood of Dawnwalker on September 3. Later in the month, players are also expected to see the arrival of Marvel’s Wolverine on September 15.
The original September 25 launch window for Onimusha would have placed it in direct competition with other anticipated titles, including Control: Resonant and Silent Hill: Townfall, both currently slated for release on September 24.
Analysts suggest that publishers are becoming increasingly cautious about release schedules as the industry prepares for the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI later in the year. Many developers are reportedly seeking less crowded release windows to maximize visibility and sales.
If the revised September 4 date proves accurate, Onimusha: Way of the Sword would gain additional breathing room in a highly competitive release period while potentially benefiting from increased attention before the arrival of other major titles.
For now, fans will have to wait for official confirmation from Capcom regarding whether the reported release date adjustment is genuine or simply a placeholder update from retailers.
