YCee Opens Up About Music Hiatus, Says He Took Time for Self-Discovery

Nigerian rapper and singer YCee has revealed the reason behind his extended absence from the music scene, explaining that he stepped away from the spotlight to focus on personal growth and self-discovery.

Speaking during a recent livestream session with content creator Carter Efe, the artist, whose real name is Oludemilade Martin Alejo, said he deliberately took a break from music to better understand himself and his purpose.

According to YCee, the period away from the industry allowed him to embark on what he described as a journey of self-discovery, adding that he is now ready to return to making music.

Reflecting on his hiatus, the rapper remarked that he had been “on the mountain,” a phrase often used to describe a period of reflection, growth, or spiritual retreat.

During the conversation, YCee also shed light on the origin of his popular nickname, “Omo Alhaji.” He explained that the moniker is connected to his family background, noting that his father is a Muslim.

While discussing faith and spirituality, the artist clarified that he does not strictly identify as a practicing Muslim. Instead, he described his personal philosophy as one rooted in love and human connection.

YCee rose to prominence in the Nigerian music industry through a series of successful releases that helped establish him as one of the country’s notable hip-hop and Afropop voices. Songs such as Jagaban, Juice, and Omo Alhaji earned widespread acclaim and contributed to his rapid rise in the industry.

His comments are likely to excite fans who have been waiting for new music from the rapper following years of relative inactivity. With his return now confirmed, many will be watching closely to see what direction his music takes after a period of personal reflection and growth.

The revelation offers fresh insight into the challenges artists often face behind the scenes and highlights the growing importance of mental, emotional, and personal development within the entertainment industry.
