Anne Hathaway Credits Christopher Nolan for Career Revival Amid Online Backlash

Actress Anne Hathaway, known for her roles in acclaimed films like ‘Les Misérables’, has openly praised director Christopher Nolan for rescuing her career when she faced significant backlash and online toxicity.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, the 41-year-old actress revealed the depths of criticism and trolling she endured, particularly following her Oscar win for Best Supporting Actress. Hathaway recalled googling herself post-Oscar victory in 2013, only to discover headlines like ‘Why does everyone hate Anne Hathaway?’ dominating search results.

Hathaway attributed her career resurgence to Nolan, highlighting his disregard for the online negativity surrounding her. She expressed gratitude for being cast in Nolan’s 2014 sci-fi epic ‘Interstellar’, portraying NASA scientist Dr. Amelia Brand, a role she described as one of the most beautiful in her career.

“A lot of people wouldn’t give me roles because they were so concerned about how toxic my identity had become online,” Hathaway remarked, emphasizing Nolan’s pivotal role in defying such concerns and offering her significant opportunities.

Having previously collaborated with Nolan on ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ in 2012, where she portrayed Selina Kyle, Hathaway believed Nolan’s support played a crucial role, even if he may not have been fully aware of it at the time.

Reflecting on the challenges of facing online humiliation and criticism, Hathaway emphasized the importance of resilience in the demanding profession of acting. She likened acting to tightrope walking, acknowledging the risks and vulnerabilities involved while urging fellow actors to offer something of value to their audience, despite the potential costs.

Despite the tumultuous experiences Hathaway faced, she remains resolute in her commitment to her craft, understanding the inherent risks and rewards that come with it.
