Apple Announces Product Event for Next-Generation iMacs

Apple is set to hold its second product event of the season, following the recent launch of the iPhone 15 lineup, with the focus likely on unveiling new iMac computers featuring the highly-anticipated M3 silicon chip.

The tech giant sent out invitations to the media, scheduling the keynote for Monday, October 30 at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT. Notably, this event will be accessible only via livestream, in contrast to Apple’s usual practice of hosting both in-person and online events.

The event’s tagline, “scary fast,” hints at the impending unveiling of the next-generation silicon chip, the M3, aligning with the Halloween theme. The introduction of the powerful M3 chip is anticipated to give the iMac line a significant boost and help revive Mac sales, which have seen a decline in the current year.

Market research firm IDC previously noted, “Weak demand, excess inventory, and a worsening macroeconomic climate were all contributing factors for the precipitous drop in shipments of traditional PCs.”

Apple introduced its first in-house M1 silicon chipset for its computer lineup in 2020, breaking away from years of reliance on Intel’s one-size-fits-all option. At the time, Apple claimed it had created the world’s fastest CPU core and fastest integrated graphics in a personal computer.

While last month saw the debut of the iPhone 15 series, featuring a slimmer design, an advanced main camera system, a customizable Action button, and USB-C charging, the upcoming event promises to showcase innovations in the Mac segment. Specifically, it is widely expected to feature the M3 chip in the 24-inch iMac, while no rumors of a new iPad launch have emerged. Apple’s strategy to develop its own silicon has been pivotal in driving performance improvements and efficiency across its product lineup.
