Apple Vision Pro Gains Advanced $30,000 Camera for Immersive Video Production

Blackmagic Design, a leader in professional video production technology, has unveiled the Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive Camera, a groundbreaking tool crafted specifically for capturing Apple Immersive Video for the Apple Vision Pro. Pre-orders are now live for the high-end camera, with shipping slated to begin in early 2025.

Revolutionizing Immersive Media

Announced in June 2024, the camera represents a significant advancement in immersive video creation. It enables filmmakers to produce ultra-high-resolution 180-degree stereoscopic video combined with Spatial Audio for an unparalleled viewing experience. Apple Immersive Video, designed to place audiences directly in the heart of the action, will benefit greatly from this cutting-edge technology.

To support the camera, Blackmagic Design is enhancing its popular DaVinci Resolve Studio software with tools tailored for immersive video editing. The updates, expected early next year, promise to simplify workflows for filmmakers working with Apple Immersive Video content.

Unmatched Technical Features

The $30,000 URSA Cine Immersive Camera is designed with a fixed dual-lens system, paired with a large-format image sensor capable of capturing stereoscopic 3D video at a staggering resolution of 8160 x 7200 pixels per eye. This equates to nearly 118 million pixels in total, delivering unmatched visual fidelity.

The camera records at up to 90 frames per second using Blackmagic RAW format and boasts 16 stops of dynamic range for incredible detail in both highlights and shadows. Each lens is pre-calibrated during manufacturing, with precise positional data stored in the RAW files to streamline post-production.

Streamlined Editing with DaVinci Resolve

Filmmakers will benefit from new immersive video tools in DaVinci Resolve Studio, including an immersive viewer for panning, tilting, and rolling video footage. The software will allow editors to monitor content on both Apple Vision Pro headsets and standard 2D screens. Additional features include presets for seamless Apple Immersive Video export and options for bypassing effects to create clean master files.

Built for High-End Production

Constructed with a magnesium alloy body and carbon fiber components, the camera combines durability with a lightweight design. Connectivity options include 12G SDI, 10G Ethernet, and USB-C, while the camera’s 8TB of internal network storage ensures ample space for high-resolution recordings.

With Blackmagic Cloud integration, real-time synchronization of footage allows teams to collaborate remotely, making the camera an ideal choice for high-end productions.

A New Era of Visual Storytelling

The Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive Camera signals a new chapter in immersive filmmaking, offering creators the tools to push the boundaries of visual storytelling. As the camera begins shipping in 2025, it is expected to set a new standard for producing content for the Apple Vision Pro and beyond.
