Apple’s 2025 MacBook Pro to Feature M5 Chip but No Redesign

Apple is expected to release a MacBook Pro powered by the M5 chip in fall 2025, but a major design overhaul will likely be postponed until late 2026, according to a new report from Bloomberg.

Annual Chip Upgrades, but No Visual Changes Yet

Following Apple’s pattern of annual chip upgrades, the 2025 MacBook Pro will continue to evolve internally while maintaining a design similar to the M3 and M4 models. The anticipated case redesign is now expected in 2026, aligning with the 20th anniversary of the MacBook Pro, which was first introduced in 2006.

Apple’s strategy for the M5 chip rollout is also affecting the iPad Pro, which previously received the M4 chip months ahead of any Mac model. Reports suggest that the M5 iPad Pro may now launch in the same timeframe as the M5 MacBook Pro, marking a shift in Apple’s release schedule.

Future MacBook Pro Models Could Feature Cellular Connectivity

Speculation continues around Apple integrating a cellular modem into future MacBook Pro models, potentially allowing mobile network connectivity in addition to Wi-Fi. Apple recently introduced its own C1 modem chip in the iPhone 16e, fueling speculation that a future iteration could be integrated into MacBooks.

Apple’s senior vice president of hardware technologies, Johny Srouji, has stated that the company aims to continuously improve its modem technology and develop it into a platform that could differentiate Apple products from competitors.

While the current C1 modem lacks mmWave support, it already includes custom GPS and satellite connectivity, which could be beneficial for users in areas with limited mobile data access.

2026 Redesign and New OLED Display

When the MacBook Pro redesign arrives in 2026, reports suggest it could feature a thinner chassis and a new OLED-based display, replacing the current mini-LED technology.

As Apple continues to enhance both performance and connectivity, the 2026 MacBook Pro could mark a significant leap forward, coinciding with the product’s 20th anniversary and introducing a refreshed design alongside advanced features.
