Ayra Starr Responds to Grammy Comparisons with South African Artist Tyla
Nigerian music sensation Ayra Starr has addressed recent comparisons between herself and South African artist Tyla, sparked after both were nominated for the inaugural Best African Music Performance category at the 66th Grammy Awards. Tyla ultimately claimed the award, edging out Ayra and other Nigerian nominees.
In her first response to the comparisons, Ayra Starr shared on BBC Radio 1 Xtra that the Grammy rivalry has no impact on her relationship with Tyla, whom she described as her “homegirl” and “G.”
“Tyla is my homegirl; that’s my G. It doesn’t bother me at all. I don’t care about all of that,” Ayra said, encouraging unity rather than rivalry. “Less noise, more music. Let’s support each other… African music is about to take over the world, and we have to come together to make that happen. There’s no need for comparisons.”
Ayra Starr’s remarks highlight the strong spirit of collaboration among African artists as they bring their music to a global audience.
