Bella Shmurda Considers Changing His “Unique” Voice to Explore New Sound

Afrobeats sensation Bella Shmurda has revealed that he is contemplating a significant shift in his musical style by moving away from the “unique” voice that has defined his career thus far. The “Cash App” singer shared his thoughts in a recent interview with Just Vibes, explaining that he is eager to experiment with a new sound that could attract a different audience.

“I know I have a unique voice, but I don’t want to be using it anymore. I want to try a new sound,” Shmurda stated, indicating his desire to break away from the style that has brought him success since his breakout hit “Vision 2020” in 2020.

Shmurda’s potential move aligns with a trend among Nigerian artists who have altered their sounds to appeal to broader, often international, audiences. While this trend has led to global success for some, it has also attracted criticism from those who believe it dilutes the authenticity of Afrobeats.

Wizkid was one of the pioneers of this trend, notably with his 2017 Caribbean-themed project Sounds From The Other Side. Similarly, Davido experimented with a different sound in his 2018 EP Son of Mercy but later returned to traditional Afrobeats after the project did not meet his expectations.

In recent years, artists like Rema, Fireboy DML, and Ayra Starr have also adapted their styles to appeal to global audiences, showing the growing influence of international markets on Nigerian music.

Bella Shmurda’s decision to explore a new sound marks a pivotal moment in his career as he seeks to expand his reach and connect with new listeners, even if it means moving away from the vocal style that first brought him fame.
