Bigiano Regrets Turning Down Don Jazzy’s Offer to Join Mo’Hits

Nigerian singer Bigiano has revealed one of the biggest regrets of his music career — declining an invitation to join the now-defunct Mo’Hits Records at the height of his success.

The ‘Shayo’ crooner, whose real name is Babalola Oluwagbemiga Gabriel, made the revelation during a recent appearance on the One One podcast. He recounted how, in 2010, Don Jazzy personally offered him a spot in the Mo’Hits lineup, but he turned it down due to overconfidence in his solo success.

“At the time, ‘Shayo’ was everywhere,” Bigiano said. “D’banj introduced me to Sunday Are, and I was invited to the Mo’Hits mansion. Don Jazzy, D’banj, Sunday Are — everyone was there. Even Wande Coal was around.”

He continued, “Don Jazzy asked me directly, ‘Do you want to join Mo’Hits?’ But instead of saying yes, I said no. I thought being independent with a hit song meant I had arrived.”

Reflecting on the missed opportunity, Bigiano admitted that joining Mo’Hits could have significantly changed the course of his career. “If I had accepted that offer, things would have turned out differently. The Mo’Hits crew were incredibly supportive. I regret the decision,” he said.

Mo’Hits Records, co-founded by Don Jazzy and D’banj, was one of the most influential music labels in Nigeria during the late 2000s and early 2010s, launching the careers of artists like Wande Coal, Dr SID, D’Prince, and others.
