Davido Says He Would Have Chosen Journalism If Not for Music

Nigerian music star David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has revealed that journalism would have been his alternative career path if he hadn’t ventured into music.

Speaking during an interview with Atlanta’s 96.1 The Beat, the multi-award-winning artist explained his passion for media and communication, stating that his background in marketing and business management fuels his love for promotion and conversations.

“I like promo, I like conversations,” Davido said. “A lot of people don’t know I studied marketing. I love to market myself, I love to talk. If I had a podcast, I could talk for three to four days.”

He also reflected on why he embraces press opportunities more than many of his peers, noting that he genuinely enjoys engaging with people and learning new things.

“If I wasn’t doing music, I’d definitely be in journalism,” he added. “Even at home, I’m always researching, I like information.”

The singer further emphasized the importance of hard work and staying active in the public eye. “A lot of people in my position would just sit down and let everything work for them. People ask why I have the most followers — it’s because I’m working,” he said. “I know how hard Beyoncé works, even with all the money she has.”

Davido’s openness has once again highlighted his reputation as one of the most engaging and media-savvy artists in the Nigerian music industry.
