Billionaire James Crown Killed in Race Car Crash

James Crown, a billionaire businessman and former board member of JPMorgan Chase, has died in a racing accident in Colorado.

The accident occurred at Aspen Motorsports Park in Woody Creek, Colorado, when Crown collided with an impact barrier in a single-vehicle crash, according to The Colorado Sun.
Crown, who turned 70 on the same day, held various leadership roles, including chairman and CEO of his family business, Henry Crown and Company, and served on the boards of JPMorgan and General Dynamics.

JPMorgan Chase CEO, Jamie Dimon, expressed condolences to Crown’s family and friends and highlighted his significant contribution to the company and their lives.

A representative for the Crown family issued a statement expressing deep sadness and requesting privacy during this challenging time.

Crown resided in Chicago but frequently traveled to Colorado and held positions in organizations in both states, such as Aspen Skiing Co., the Aspen Institute, the Museum of Science and Industry, the Civic Committee, and the University of Chicago.

Local authorities are currently investigating the crash, with the official cause of death pending autopsy.

In 2020, Forbes estimated the Crown family’s wealth at $10.2 billion.

Crown is survived by his wife, four children, and his parents.

President Joe Biden mourned Crown’s passing, recognizing him as a good man, a dear friend, and a great American, emphasizing his contribution to Chicago’s growth and his dedication to business and civic leadership.

Crown had attended the White House State Dinner the previous week, honoring Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
