Burna Boy Mocks South Africans After White Model Wins Miss SA 2024 Following Chidimma Adetshina Controversy

Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Burna Boy has taken a jab at South Africans following the victory of Mia Le Roux, a white model of Dutch descent, in the Miss South Africa 2024 pageant. The win comes after Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina, a model with Nigerian and Mozambican roots, withdrew from the contest amid intense backlash from predominantly black South Africans who questioned her suitability to represent the nation.

Mia Le Roux, who is deaf, was crowned Miss South Africa 2024 on Saturday, outperforming nine other finalists, most of whom were black. Adetshina’s withdrawal, fueled by claims that her non-South African heritage made her an unsuitable representative, had sparked controversy and criticism across the continent.

In response to Le Roux’s victory, Burna Boy shared a photo of the newly crowned Miss SA on his X account, accompanied by the caption, “So after all that… [laugh emoji],” mocking the backlash that forced Adetshina out of the competition.

This reaction comes on the heels of South African singer Tyla condemning the bullying faced by Adetshina, expressing disappointment in the harsh treatment she received from her compatriots. The incident has drawn attention to issues of race, identity, and representation within South Africa’s beauty pageant industry.
