Asake Reveals Wizkid’s Eagerness to Feature on Hit Track ‘MMS’
Nigerian music sensation Asake, born Ololade Ahmed, has revealed that Grammy-winning artist Wizkid personally requested to be featured on his latest track, “MMS.” During a recent Instagram session with fans, Asake shared that he initially had another artist in mind for the collaboration. However, when producer P. Prime played the track for Wizkid, the “Essence” singer was instantly hooked and asked to be part of it.
“I didn’t know I was going to put Wizkid on that song, to be honest. I had someone else in mind for it, but P. Prime played the song for Wiz, and he said, ‘I f*ck with this song, I want to jump on it,'” Asake recounted.
“MMS,” released on Friday as part of Asake’s third studio album Lungu Boy, has already made waves in the music industry. The song broke the record for the biggest first-day streams on Spotify Nigeria, amassing 870,000 streams, surpassing the previous record held by Wizkid’s “IDG” featuring Zlatan Ibile, which had 626,000 streams.
In addition to the success of “MMS,” Asake’s Lungu Boy album also set a new record for the biggest first-day streams for an African album on Spotify, garnering an impressive 9.42 million streams on the Global Spotify Chart on its debut day.
