Burna Boy Turns Down $5 Million Dubai Performance Deal Over Smoking Restrictions

Grammy-winning Nigerian artist, Burna Boy, recently disclosed that he declined a $5 million offer to perform in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), citing the strict regulations against smoking weed in the Emirati city.

In a circulating video, Burna Boy is seen rehearsing with his band, Outsiders, and freestyling about his recent decision to reject the lucrative deal. The artist expressed that the money offered was inconsequential to him because he refuses to perform in locations where he is not permitted to smoke marijuana.

The United Arab Emirates enforces stringent laws against smoking in public spaces, including parks, beaches, and recreational areas in Dubai, making it a violation of the law to smoke weed in such areas.

Burna Boy’s refusal to accept the Dubai performance deal underscores his personal principles and unwillingness to compromise on his preferences, especially when it comes to adhering to regulations concerning his recreational habits.

“Just now I turned down dubai money, 5 million dollar na small thing cos me I no dey like to dey go where dem no go gree allow me smoke igbo,” Burna Boy freestyled while rehearsing with his band, Outsiders, in a video making the rounds on social media platform, X.
