Chris Evans Rules Out Running for Office
In a recent announcement, Hollywood actor Chris Evans, famed for his role as ‘Captain America,’ has categorically ruled out any plans of venturing into politics, citing exhaustion as the primary reason for abstaining from a potential run for office. The 42-year-old star, who co-founded the civic engagement platform A Starting Point in 2009 with Mark Kassen and Joe Kiani, emphasized that his involvement in political endeavours would not extend beyond this initiative.
During a National Press Club event held in Washington DC, The Hill reported Evans stating, “Being here [in D.C.], you realise how much goes into it. And I’m tired! I don’t think so. I think there are better ways to be a part of the world without having to do the work that goes into being an elected official.”
Reflecting on his experience with A Starting Point, Evans acknowledged that building the platform brought him in close proximity to the political and media spheres, providing insight into the challenges faced by elected officials and journalists. He expressed a deep respect for the demanding nature of these fields, further solidifying his decision to remain outside the realm of elected office.
The actor, who openly voiced his frustration when Donald Trump assumed the presidency in 2017, shared his feelings with Esquire magazine, stating, “I feel fury. It’s unbelievable.” Despite receiving advice to avoid political discussions for career preservation, Evans highlighted the importance of staying true to his convictions.
In discussing his career and potential ramifications for his movie ticket sales, Evans stated, “Look, I’m in a business where you’ve got to sell tickets. I think it’s about how you speak up. We’re allowed to disagree. If I state my case and people don’t want to go see my movies as a result, I’m okay with that.”
