Davido Reveals He Has Never Met Nicki Minaj Despite Collaborations
Nigerian music star Davido has revealed that, despite working together on multiple songs, he has never met Nicki Minaj in person.
Speaking on the Bootleg Kev podcast, the Afrobeats singer shared details about his virtual connection with the U.S. rapper and how their collaborations came about.
“You know the crazy thing? I have never met her [Nicki Minaj]. It’s crazy. We speak on the phone all the time. The first time we linked was through DM,” Davido said.
According to him, their first collaboration happened after he noticed Nicki was following him on Instagram. He reached out, and to his surprise, she responded.
“I woke up the next morning and saw her reply. I was shocked. I told her I had a song for us, and she said she was interested. I think it was 2019 or 2020. I sent her the record, and two days later, she sent me her verse.”
The two were supposed to shoot a video for their 2020 song “Holy Ground” in Los Angeles, but scheduling conflicts prevented it, as Nicki was expecting her child at the time.
Despite never meeting in person, their professional relationship has remained strong. Davido revealed that Minaj later reached out to him for a feature on her anniversary album “Pink Friday 2” in 2023.
“She’s always supportive. She’s amazing,” he added.
Davido and Nicki Minaj’s collaborations include “Holy Ground” from Davido’s 2020 album A Better Time and another track on Minaj’s anniversary project last year.
