D’banj Recounts How He Lost Friends in Order to Grow in ‘Cover Me’

Award-winning Nigerian singer, D’banj has come through with a brand new single titled, ‘Cover Me’.

The song was released on all streaming platforms in the early hours of Friday.

The track, ‘Cover Me’ comes on the back of the singer’s first official single of the year titled, ‘Face Show.’

In the song, D’banj sings about the changes he embraced during his self-realization and growth journey.

The singer also drops lines about some friends he lost “in order for me to grow” as evident in the lyrics.

“Sometimes when I look in the mirror/ I see two men/ Can’t tell where the old me ends and the new begins/ When I start to find myself / I lost some friends/ But I know I gotta let go, in order for me to grow/ Fa la la la la la la, aiye o/ Fa la la la la la la, aiye o/ Nitori pe mo ni’Olorun, mo laiye o/Toba wuwon Kan soro o, mo laiye o.”

D’banj has won several awards and recognition over the years.

In 2007, he won the ‘Best African Act’ at the MTV Europe Music Awards.

He also claimed the ‘Artist of the Year’ at the MTV Africa Music Awards in 2009, and ‘Best International Act: Africa’ at the 2011 BET Awards.

Others included the ‘Best-Selling African Artist’ at the 2014 World Music Awards and the ‘Evolution Award’ at the 2015 MTV Africa Music Awards.
