Bayern Munich held by Plucky Union Berlin | Watch Highlights

Bayern Munich and Union Berlin battled to a 1-1 draw on Saturday, with the result seeing both teams drop off the top of the Bundesliga table, as reported by ESPN.

Union entered the match having never beaten Munich, and their hopes were certainly boosted when they took the lead after 12 minutes.

Leading scorer Sheraldo Becker fired home a perfect volley at the far post, his fifth of the season.

However their lead was short-lived, with Joshua Kimmich lacing a low drive into the back of the net for the away side just three minutes later.

Bayern came close to taking the lead in the 37th minute after some great work by Jamal Musiala, who picked out Leroy Sane, only for Riis Ronnow to make a fine stop.

Union’s best chance to take home three points came in the 75th minus when Jamie Leweling forced Manuel Neuer into a fine stop, while Ronnow tipped a looping Sadio Mane header over the bar in stoppage time to maintain the status quo.

The draw is the second in as many games for Julian Nagelsmann’s men, who were held to the same scoreline by Borussia Monchengladbach last week.

The result means Bayern, along with Union, sit on 11 points, with Freiburg moving into top spot on 12 points thanks to a 3-2 win over Bayer Leverkusen.

They’re joined by Borussia Dortmund, who defeated Hoffenheim 1-0 earlier this weekend.
