Kante Out of France’s World Cup Campaign After Injury Setback

N’Golo Kante will miss France’s World Cup campaign following a setback in his recovery from a hamstring problem, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

The 31-year-old, a crucial member of Les Bleus’ 2018 World Cup triumph, hasn’t appeared for Chelsea since he suffered his initial hamstring injury during a 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur in mid-August.

Kante recently returned to Chelsea training before suffering his latest issue. He’s reportedly expected to miss around three months.

Chelsea manager Graham Potter revealed Kante’s latest fitness concern was “not good news” during a press conference earlier Friday.

Kante moved to Chelsea from Leicester City in 2016 and quickly established himself as a crucial player at Stamford Bridge. However, he’s been increasingly hampered by injuries in recent years, failing to surpass 24 starts in any of the previous three Premier League seasons. He started two matches this campaign before being substituted late against Spurs.

Kante’s Chelsea contract expires next June.
