Doja Cat Finds ‘True Love,’ Hints at Marriage on New Alum ‘Scarlet’
Doja Cat has delighted fans with the release of her latest album, “Scarlet,” and it appears that she may be ready to take a step towards settling down based on the album’s lyrics.
The Los Angeles rapper, known for her hit tracks, has dropped her highly anticipated fourth full-length album, following up on the success of her Grammy-nominated 2021 release, “Planet Her.”
In a couple of tracks nestled midway through the album, Doja Cat appears to shower her boyfriend, J. Cyrus, with affectionate lyrics that suggest a desire to take their relationship to the next level.
In the song “Agora Hills,” there are hints of marriage as she sings: “Kissin’ and hope they caught us/ Whether they like or not/ I wanna show you off/ I wanna show you off/ I wanna brag about it/ I wanna tie the knot/ I wanna show you off.”
She drops another hint later in the song with the lyrics: “Take you ’round the world, they don’t have to understand/ Rub it in their face, put a rock on her hand.”
The following track, “Can’t Wait,” continues to express her feelings for her significant other as she raps: “I wouldn’t do this for no man/ It’s an understatement if I tell you you’s important/ I’m just tryna bring you drinks and assortments/ Hot towels with a mocktail by the ocean/ Top down with our ice shining like a snowman/ Cook you a crab boil that reminds you of New Orleans.”
And later: “Just know that I will wait or that I’d never leave/ I’m giving you space, giving you cover, uh-huh/ Giving you true love in abundance, uh-huh/ Giving and taking because we’re not a fling/ Giving me faith that it’s not another.”
While Doja Cat doesn’t explicitly mention J. Cyrus by name, her reference to New Orleans suggests a connection to him, given that he hails from the city. This hints at the seriousness of their relationship.
The pair has been dating for nearly a year, first seen kissing and spending time together in November 2022.
However, J. Cyrus has faced controversy, with accusations of manipulating and emotionally abusing members of his streaming community and team. Despite these allegations, Doja Cat has been vocal about her relationship and is not afraid to defend it, as evidenced by her fiery response to critics on social media earlier this year.
