Nigeria Needs ‘Mohbad Law’ Against cultist intimidation – Seun Kuti tells FG
Seun Kuti, the renowned Nigerian musician and youngest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo Kuti, has called for the enactment of legislation against intimidation by cultists.
His call comes in the wake of the recent death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, which has raised concerns about potential cult affiliations and activities within the entertainment industry.
Taking to his Instagram page to address the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s demise, Seun Kuti expressed his belief that the singer’s death was linked to cult involvement. He highlighted the long-standing issue of cultism in Nigerian society, describing it as a menace that poses a threat to the younger generation.
Seun Kuti asserted that cultism has deeply penetrated various sectors of Nigerian society, including law enforcement agencies, where some officers openly admitted their affiliations to him, assuming he was also part of a cult.
Sharing his personal experience, he wrote, “When I was locked up, numerous police officers and their superiors told me about their various cultist affiliations, thinking I was one of them and seeking to assist me. Even the police are cultists. Now, you are asking cultists to investigate cultists. #getthesax.”
He called on lawmakers to take immediate action by enacting stringent laws against cultism and cultist intimidation. Seun Kuti emphasized that if this issue is not effectively addressed, it will continue to erode the prospects of future generations.
“A nation of cowards!! We need a MOHBAD Law against cultist intimidation in all our institutions. Anything short of that is nothing!! The National Assembly must do this monumental work to protect future generations from this scourge. #mohbadlaw,” he concluded.
