Eminem Speaks On 2025 Grammys Showdown With Kendrick Lamar: ‘It’s Stiff Competition’
As the 2025 Grammy Awards approach, legendary rapper Eminem is gearing up for a showdown with Kendrick Lamar in multiple categories. However, the Detroit MC has no doubts about who will dominate the night.
Speaking with DJ Whoo Kid on Shade 45 during a special Christmas Eve broadcast celebrating the SiriusXM channel’s 20th anniversary, Eminem expressed his admiration for Kendrick and predicted a clean sweep for the Compton rapper.
“It’s very stiff competition,” Eminem said with a smile. “Kendrick’s gonna sweep that. He’s going to, and he should.”
Kendrick Lamar leads the rap category with seven nominations, while Eminem is up for three. The two will face off in the Best Music Video and Best Rap Performance categories at the February 2 event.
A Longstanding Respect
Eminem has been a vocal supporter of Kendrick Lamar for years. Ahead of their joint performance at the Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show in 2022, Eminem described Kendrick as “the most electrifying vocalist of this generation.”
“He’s at the very top, top tier of lyricists – not just of this generation, but of all time,” Eminem told Sway Calloway at the time.
Eminem has also praised Kendrick’s storytelling and artistic approach, particularly on his 2012 album good kid, m.A.A.d city. Calling the project a “masterpiece” during an interview with Genius, Eminem said, “The way he intertwined the skits with the songs, the wordplay, the deliveries — it was genius, especially for a debut.”
Shared History
The two rap heavyweights collaborated once on “Love Game” from Eminem’s 2013 album The Marshall Mathers LP 2, though they have yet to reunite for another track.
With both artists at the pinnacle of their careers, the upcoming Grammys promise to be a night of celebration for two of hip-hop’s greatest, regardless of who takes home the awards.
