Fireboy DML Says His Father May Never Forgive Him for Getting Tattoos
Nigerian singer Fireboy DML has revealed that his decision to get tattoos has deeply strained his relationship with his father, who disapproves of body art.
Speaking on a recent episode of the 90s Baby Show, the Peru crooner, born Adedamola Adefolahan, shared how he goes to great lengths to hide his ink whenever his father visits.
“One thing that I would do that can break my dad’s heart? I think I already did — my tattoos,” Fireboy said. “Whenever he comes to visit me, I’m always in a jalabiya, fully covered. Because tattoos, they break his heart every time he sees them.”
The singer noted that while his father has no issue with his piercings, the tattoos are a different matter entirely. “He will never forgive me for these things,” he admitted.
Despite his father’s disapproval, Fireboy insisted that his love for tattoos goes beyond his career as an artist.
“Even if I had ended up as a banker, I would still have tattoos,” he said. “It’s not even about being an artist. I see it as art. Sometimes, I want to be shirtless and still look like I’m dressed. I want to wear a singlet and walk into a place and still have a presence. That’s what tattoos are to me.”
The 29-year-old YBNL star has become known not just for his soulful music but also for his distinctive personal style — a visual expression he clearly sees as an extension of his artistry.
