Haaland Races to Scoring Record for Single EPL Season With Goal No. 35

Manchester City’s Erling Haaland set a new record with his 35th goal in a single Premier League season against West Ham United – and he still has the rest of Wednesday’s game at the Etihad Stadium plus five more matches to add to this count.

His cool lob over Lukasz Fabianski meant he eclipsed the previous mark of 34 goals jointly held by Andy Cole and Alan Shearer. The legendary strikers reached that tally when there were four more games in an English top-flight campaign due to there being 22 clubs. The Premier League was reduced to 20, and therefore 38 matches per team, in 1995.

Haaland broke Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah’s scoring record for a 38-game Premier League season during the 4-1 rout of title rivals Arsenal on April 26.

The 22-year-old’s finish also lifted him to 51 goals in all competitions this season. He’s the first player from England’s top tier to surpass a half-century across all competitive club games since Everton’s Dixie Dean scored a remarkable 63 times for Everton during the 1927-28 campaign.
