Harrysong Shares Harrowing Experience of Leaving Former Record Label Amid Mohbad’s Tragic Demise

Renowned Nigerian singer and instrumentalist Harrison Tare Okiri, popularly known as Harrysong, has spoken out about the difficulties he encountered when trying to part ways with his former record label, Five Star Music. His revelation comes in response to the controversy surrounding the untimely death of fellow musician Mohbad, who allegedly faced harassment and assault linked to his former record label boss, Naira Marley.

In a heartfelt appeal for justice for the late Mohbad and a call for greater respect and fairness within the music industry, Harrysong urged record label owners to cease mistreating their signed artists. He took to his Instagram story to share his own personal ordeal and shed light on the challenges faced when seeking independence from a record label.

In his Instagram post, Harrysong recounted the tribulations he endured during his attempt to break free from Five Star Music. He revealed that, without the grace of God and the support of a few loyal allies, he might have suffered a fate similar to that of Mohbad.

Harrysong detailed the relentless onslaught of attacks, torment, and abuse he faced from his former label when he expressed his desire to move on and pursue his personal growth as an artist. He remarked, “It was hell for me, the general public believed everything they said about me then, fans and show promoters bullying me everywhere.”

The artist emphasized the tremendous pressure and adversity he encountered during this period, even revealing that one of his friends had cynically wagered that he would celebrate if Harrysong succumbed to depression and hunger. However, Harrysong’s resilience and the unwavering support of a few allies helped him endure these challenging times.

In his impassioned plea, Harrysong implored record labels to abandon the “do or die” mentality, calling for an end to the mistreatment of young talents striving to make their mark in the industry. He urged the music industry to prioritize justice and fairness, particularly in cases where artists seek to assert their independence from their record labels.

Harrysong’s candid account of his own experiences highlights the critical need for reform within the music industry, fostering an environment where artists can pursue their careers with dignity and respect. His words serve as a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by artists seeking autonomy and recognition in the competitive world of music.
