‘I Lost My Son, Dad’ – Kizz Daniel Shares Story Behind New Song
Afrobeats sensation Oluwatobiloba Daniel Anidugbe, better known as Kizz Daniel, has opened up about the personal losses that inspired his latest single, Al-Jannah – a song he describes as a heartfelt tribute to loved ones lost over the years.
Speaking during a recent podcast appearance, the Nigerian singer reflected on the emotional journey behind the record, revealing that the passing of his father and son played a central role in shaping the song’s message.
“When my dad was alive, he was my best friend,” Kizz Daniel said. “I lost him in 2015, just days after my 21st birthday. Then in 2021, we lost our son. My wife also lost her mum this year. I’ve lost my stepmother too. It’s been a journey of grief.”
The track, titled Al-Jannah – which translates to “paradise” in Arabic – is more than just a tribute to one person, the artist explained. “I didn’t want to make the song about just one loss. It’s a tribute to everyone we’ve lost along the way. I think I was able to capture that by calling them ‘friends’ in the lyrics. That word says it all.”
Kizz Daniel’s willingness to address deeply personal experiences marks a notable emotional depth in his music, with Al-Jannah standing out as a resonant piece for fans who have endured similar losses.
The singer’s candid reflections have been met with an outpouring of support from fans on social media, many of whom have praised the track for its vulnerability and relatability.
