VeryDarkMan Criticises Davido, Burna Boy, Wizkid Over Luxury Car Purchases Amid Economic Crisis
Controversial social commentator and social media critic, VeryDarkMan, has publicly criticised Nigerian music heavyweights Davido, Burna Boy, and Wizkid for flaunting luxury car purchases at a time when many Nigerians are grappling with economic hardship.
In a video making the rounds on Instagram, VeryDarkMan questioned the artists’ sensitivity to the ongoing struggles of their fans and fellow citizens, following news of recent multi-billion naira car acquisitions.
This criticism follows Burna Boy’s reported purchase of a brand-new McLaren Sienna, reportedly worth over ₦3.5 billion, making him the first African to own the car. Just hours later, Davido was said to have acquired a 2026 Mercedes Maybach SL 680, estimated at ₦1.2 billion. Wizkid, on his part, had earlier made headlines for buying a vehicle reportedly worth ₦1.7 billion.
Reacting to the developments, VeryDarkMan accused the trio of being disconnected from the realities of everyday Nigerians, arguing that their public display of wealth sends the wrong message during such a difficult period.
“You people are not the government, but let’s be honest – do you even read the room?” he asked. “You all benefited from Nigeria and from your fans. But what can those fans point to and say they benefited from you?”
Focusing particularly on Davido, with whom he claims to have a personal relationship, VeryDarkMan questioned the singer’s impact in his home state of Osun. He noted that the last time Davido publicly engaged in Osun affairs was during his uncle’s gubernatorial campaign.
“What have you done for the people since then?” he asked. “What have you built that has helped the youths?”
The video has since sparked debate online, with some agreeing that celebrities should show more social responsibility, while others defended the musicians’ right to enjoy their wealth.
Neither Davido, Burna Boy nor Wizkid has publicly responded to the criticism as of the time of this report.
