Ibrahim Chatta Dismisses AMVCA After Losing Best Lead Actor Award

Nollywood veteran Ibrahim Chatta has downplayed the importance of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), declaring he has no interest in winning the coveted accolade following his recent loss.

Chatta, who was nominated in the Best Lead Actor category for his performance in House of GAA, lost the award to fellow actor Femi Adebayo, who won for his role in Seven Doors. The award ceremony took place on Saturday night in Lagos.

Speaking on Sunday during an episode of the Curiosity Made Me Ask podcast, Chatta was asked by host Isbae U whether he felt overlooked in his profession, and whether he still hoped to win an AMVCA someday. The actor responded simply: “I’m not interested.”

His blunt response has sparked conversations online, with many debating whether the seasoned actor’s comments stem from frustration or a broader critique of the awards process.

Despite being widely respected for his craft and versatility, Chatta has often been overlooked in major award circles. His remarks come amid ongoing conversations about the inclusivity and fairness of award recognitions in Nollywood.
