Julia Fox and Kanye West

Julia Fox Opens Up About Struggles After Kanye West Romance

Actress Julia Fox, widely known for her role in ‘Uncut Gems,’ has shared her feelings regarding her brief relationship with rapper Kanye West, expressing that sometimes she wishes it had never happened. The actress revealed that their short-lived romance has cast a long shadow over her life, and she’s often questioned about it.

During the interview, she voiced her frustrations, stating, “People are like, ‘Oh her relationship with Kanye put her on the map.’ And it’s been really hard for them to see me as anything other than that. Even having written this memoir, people still want to just talk about that. It’s really misogynistic. It’s really dark.”

Julia’s memoir, titled ‘Down the Drain,’ is her attempt to establish herself beyond the Kanye West narrative. Nevertheless, she acknowledges that being judged primarily based on a romantic relationship is not a new phenomenon. Historically, women have been evaluated based on the men they are associated with, and this is a practice she finds deeply frustrating.

Reflecting on the aftermath of her relationship with Kanye West, Julia revealed that she lost several lucrative fashion deals and promised movie roles. Despite her ambition to turn her memoir into a film and her efforts in writing a script, Julia still feels that Hollywood is not taking her seriously.

When asked if she thinks she’s gaining more credibility in the industry, she responded, “Not really. But like I said, I never expected to be anything but underestimated. Otherwise, I would be miserable.”

Julia has also faced rumours that her memoir was ghostwritten, but she believes that much of the criticism she faces stems from envy. She discussed the complexities of being in the spotlight and the impact it has had on her.

Her statement on the matter was clear, “Well, of course, because you’re only allowed to be smart if you’re ugly. In any setting I was ever in, I could feel envy, fixation, and obsession. And a lot of the time it materialized as bullying, ostracization, or idealization. But I never set out to be famous. I hate this world.”
