Kel-P Denies Solidstar’s Claims of ‘Grooming’ Him, Giving His Sound to Burna Boy

Nigerian music producer Kel-P has refuted claims by singer Solidstar that he mentored him and that his sound was taken and given to Burna Boy.

Earlier this year, Solidstar alleged that Kel-P adopted his musical style and infused it into Burna Boy’s work. He claimed he chose to let it go out of respect for Burna Boy, who had previously supported his career.

Reacting on the Urban96 Podcast, Kel-P dismissed the accusations, stating that the sound in question was his own creation.

“Many artists believe they own a sound just because a producer worked with them,” he said. “I created that sound, and I share it with different artists. Solidstar was one of the first artists I worked with, and I made music with him purely because of his talent—I never made a dime from it. But when I got the opportunity to work with Burna Boy, I shifted my focus.”

Kel-P also detailed his past interactions with Solidstar, revealing that after congratulating him on his success, the singer repeatedly followed and unfollowed him on social media before publicly calling him out.

Kel-P rose to prominence after producing and co-writing 10 tracks on Burna Boy’s 2019 Grammy-nominated album, ‘African Giant’.
