Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Luther’ Hits One Billion Spotify Streams in Record Time
Kendrick Lamar’s smash-hit collaboration with SZA, Luther, has crossed one billion streams on Spotify, setting a new personal record for the Compton rapper.
Released in November 2024, Luther has become Lamar’s fastest song to reach the milestone, achieving it in just seven months – one month quicker than his previous record-holder Not Like Us, which hit the mark in eight months.
The track marks Lamar’s 11th song to surpass a billion streams on the platform, joining a catalogue of fan favourites including HUMBLE., Money Trees, and All the Stars.
Since its release, Luther has been a commercial and cultural juggernaut. It held the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for 13 straight weeks and topped the U.S. Hip Hop chart for a record-breaking 25 weeks. The track also played a key role in Lamar’s sweeping success at this year’s BET Awards.
At the star-studded ceremony in Los Angeles, Lamar picked up five awards, including Album of the Year, Best Hip Hop Artist, and Video of the Year for Luther, which also earned him Best Collaboration and Best Video Director – shared with his longtime creative partner Dave Free.
Taking the stage to accept Album of the Year, Lamar addressed the crowd, saying, “I ain’t been here in a long time, but I always kept my heart with BET. They represent the culture right… real, down-to-earth music that people can feel. God first and foremost. Shoutout to pgLang, SZA – we on tour right now. Come through!”
Lamar and SZA are currently headlining the Grand National Tour, which is wrapping up its North American leg before heading to Europe for a run of major stadium dates. The tour marks another high point in what has been a monumental year for both artists.
