Late Havertz Strike Completes Chelsea Comeback Win Over West Ham | Watch Highlights

Chelsea got their Premier League campaign back on track, defeating West Ham 2-1 thanks to a late winner from substitute Kai Havertz.

As reported by ESPN, Thomas Tuchel’s men seemed to carry the wounds from their midweek defeat to Southampton into Saturday’s match, as they failed to fire a shot on target in the opening half despite having much of the possession.

The lack of chances played into the hands of West Ham, who took the lead after a rare attack in the 62nd minute.

Michael Antonio bundled home from close range after Edouard Mendy failed to clear a corner.

The ball fell to the feet of Declan Rice, before Antonio got to it first and prodded it over the line.

Unfortunately for West Ham, the lead lasted just 14 minutes. Substitute Ben Chilwell got on to the end of a hopeful Thiago Silva ball and tapped the ball through the legs of Lukasz Fabianski from a tight angle.

Maxwel Cornet almost won it for the away side with minutes remaining, only for his header to cannon back of the post.

It proved costly, as Chelsea went down to the other end. Chilwell curled in a cross at the near post, with Havertz getting his head onto it to put the Blues ahead.

The drama didn’t end there as Cornet thought he had levelled proceedings, only for VAR to rule Mendy had been fouled by Jarrod Bowen prior to the goal.

The decision was met with disbelief by the West Ham players and manager David Moyes, with the final whistle blown soon after.

The result means Chelsea now sit fifth on 10 points, while West Ham are down in 18th with just four points from their opening six matches.
