Lewis Hamilton and George Russell Extend Contracts With Mercedes Until 2025

Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team has unveiled a significant extension to its driver lineup, with both Lewis Hamilton and George Russell signing contract extensions that will keep them with the team until the conclusion of the 2025 season.

The announcement solidifies the duo’s commitment to the team and their shared pursuit of excellence on the racing circuit. Lewis Hamilton, a revered seven-time champion, expressed his sentiments in a statement, emphasizing the relentless dedication that has characterized his partnership with Mercedes. He stated, “Being at the top does not happen overnight or over a short period of time, it takes commitment, hard work and dedication and it’s been an honour to earn our way into the history books with this incredible team.”

Since joining forces with the Silver Arrows in 2023, Hamilton has secured six victories, contributing significantly to his unparalleled career record. While his initial triumph came in 2008 during his time with McLaren, the majority of his career wins—82 out of 103—have been achieved under the Mercedes banner. Although his most recent victory dates back to the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix on December 5, 2021, Hamilton’s association with Mercedes was set to conclude with the current term, a situation that has now been altered with the extension.

Hamilton’s partnership with Mercedes will span at least 13 seasons, a testament to the mutual commitment of both the driver and the team. He conveyed his unwavering determination, stating, “We have never been hungrier to win… We continue to chase our dreams, we continue to fight no matter the challenge and we will win again.”

George Russell, who initially joined Mercedes as part of its junior program in 2017 and made his Formula One debut in 2019 with Williams, made a significant transition ahead of the 2022 season by joining Mercedes. This move proved fruitful as he secured his first career victory at the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix.

The partnership extension with both Hamilton and Russell underscores Mercedes’ dedication to building a cohesive and dynamic team capable of achieving remarkable success on the racetrack. With a renewed sense of purpose, both drivers are poised to continue their pursuit of glory, enriching the legacy of Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team.
